Omophron ovale, the oval round sand beetle, is a small ground beetle in the Carabidae family. It lives in North America, mainly along the edges of freshwater ponds, streams, and lakes, and can also be found on some sea beaches and salt marshes. These beetles stay near water and burrow into sand and mud. Like all ground beetles, Omophron ovale undergoes complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa, and then adult.

They are about 4.5 to 6.6 millimeters long and have a distinctive pattern with yellowish-tan and metallic green markings. Taxonomy: Kingdom Animalia; Phylum Arthropoda; Class Insecta; Order Coleoptera; Suborder Adephaga; Family Carabidae; Genus Omophron; Species ovale. Synonyms include Omophron frater, Omophron concinnum, and Omophron gemma.
