Kremenchuk Regiment
Kremenchuk Regiment
The Kremenchuk Regiment (Ukrainian: Кременчуцький полк; romanized: Kremenchutskyi polk) was one of ten territorial-administrative units of the Cossack Hetmanate. It existed from 1661 to 1663 and was based in Kremenchuk, now in Poltava Oblast, central Ukraine. It was created by Yakym Somko to strengthen control over the Poltava region. Later it aligned with Petro Doroshenko and then with Ivan Briukhovetsky. The regiment consisted of about 21 sotnias taken from the existing sotnias of Chyhyryn, Poltava, Myrhorod, and Lubny regiments. In 1663 it was abolished, and its sotnias returned to their original regiments. Notable commanders included Kyrylo Andrievych, Havrylo Dybovyk, and Kostiantyn Havrylenko.
