Oligopithecidae
Oligopithecidae is an extinct, early family of primates. They lived about 37 million years ago in what is now Egypt, during the late Eocene. They are considered a very early branch of Catarrhini, the group that later includes Old World monkeys and apes. Their simple molars suggest they mainly ate insects. The family includes the genera Catopithecus, Oligopithecus, and Talahpithecus. Taxonomy: Animalia; Chordata; Mammalia; Primates; Haplorhini; Catarrhini; family Oligopithecidae. Temporal range: Late Eocene to Early Oligocene.
