Nockebybanan
Nockebybanan is a tram line in western Stockholm. It runs from Nockeby to Alvik, covering 5.6 km (3.5 miles) with 10 stops. It is line 12 in the StorStockholms Lokaltrafik network and is operated by Stockholms Spårvägar. At Alvik you can switch to the Stockholm metro Green Line or to Tvärbanan.
History in brief: The line opened in 1914 after building a pontoon bridge. It reached Nockeby in 1929. The pontoon bridge was replaced by Tranebergsbron in 1934. In the 1940s–1950s, Ängbybanan was built and later became part of the Green Line; Nockebybanan then became a feeder to the Metro at Alvik. The line stayed in operation during the 1967 switch to right-hand traffic. In the late 1990s the line was renovated and new Bombardier Flexity Swift trams were introduced in 1999. A local race, Tolvanloppet, is named after the line number (12 km).
Current operations: One line (12) with ten stops from Nockeby to Alvik. The journey takes about 14 minutes. Service runs roughly every 6 minutes at peak times and about every 20 minutes in evenings and weekends. About 11,800 boardings per weekday (2019). The trams are 30 meters long. The depot and traffic control center are at Alvik and shared with Tvärbanan. Trams access the Brommadepån depot west of Alvik, which is shared with the metro (the metro uses a third rail; trams use overhead wires).
