Jake Luton
Jake Luton is an American football quarterback who has spent time with multiple NFL teams. Born on April 11, 1996, in Marysville, Washington, he is 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 224 pounds.
Luton played college football at Idaho (2014–2015), Ventura College (2016), and Oregon State (2017–2019). At Idaho, he redshirted in 2014 and played eight games in 2015, throwing for 408 yards with five rushing touchdowns. He then moved to Ventura College in 2016, where he threw for 3,551 yards and 40 touchdowns. Luton finished his college career at Oregon State, earning a sixth year of eligibility. After a back injury in 2017 limited his season, he started 11 games in 2019, totaling 28 touchdown passes and three interceptions.
Luton was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 6th round of the 2020 NFL Draft (189th overall). He made his first NFL start in Week 9 of the 2020 season against the Houston Texans, finishing 26 of 38 for 304 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, plus a 13-yard rushing score. He started again in Week 10 vs. Green Bay (18 of 35, 169 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) and Week 11 vs. Pittsburgh (16 of 37, 151 yards, 0 TD, 4 INT). After three rough games, he was benched in favor of Mike Glennon.
In 2021, Luton was waived at roster cutdown and then signed by the Seattle Seahawks. He spent time on Seattle’s practice squad and was briefly activated in October due to an injury to Russell Wilson. He later joined the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad in November 2021.
In 2022, Luton had a series of short stints. He signed a reserve/future contract with the Jaguars in February, was waived in August, then re-signed and waived again. He spent time with the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad, was elevated to the active roster briefly, and had several other moves with the Saints and Carolina Panthers through 2023. He joined the Panthers in 2023, spent time on their practice squad, and was signed to the Saints’ roster again in late 2023 before moving back to the Panthers’ practice squad.
In August 2024, Luton re-signed with the Panthers but landed on injured reserve and was released after an injury settlement later that month. On December 10, 2024, he joined the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad.
Career NFL statistics include 110 passing attempts with 60 completions (54.5%), 2 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, 624 passing yards, a passer rating of 54.5, 13 rushing yards, and 1 rushing touchdown.
