Nico Pattyn (born 26 October 1968 in Roeselare, Belgium) is one of Belgium’s most successful quiz players. He became European Quizzing Champion in 2007 in Blackpool, and he was the first to beat Kevin Ashman in European individual competition. He won silver at the first European Quizzing Championships in 2004 (Ghent) and again in 2013 (Liverpool).

In the World Quizzing Championships, he finished third in 2005 and 2006 and has placed in the world top twenty in every edition. Since 2003 he has captained the Belgian national team; under his leadership the team won the England-Belgium interland in Bromley, the precursor to the EQC.

Pattyn has three European titles (2005, 2006, 2008) and has earned silver or bronze in other European events. With his club Café Den Hemel, he won the club competition in 2003 and earned European bronze in 2007; he also won European bronze in 2005 in the European pairs event with Paul Arts.

In 2013, he won the first Masters competition, defeating Pat Gibson in the final. He was Flemish champion in 2008, 2011 and 2012. His strongest subjects are history, geography and culture. Pattyn was raised in Langemark and now lives in Ghent, where he works as a psychologist. An interview with him is available on the Norwegian Quiz Association website.
