Nickelodeon on CBS
Nick on CBS was a Saturday-morning kids block on CBS from September 16, 2000 to September 9, 2006. It started as Nick Jr. on CBS, airing preschool shows from Nick Jr. with no commercials at first. On September 14, 2002 the block expanded to include main Nickelodeon series, becoming Nick on CBS. It added popular shows such as Blue’s Clues and Dora the Explorer, and introduced a new logo. On September 18, 2004 the block returned to Nick Jr., focusing again on preschool programming, with Rugrats briefly airing in 2003 as a short-lived regular series.
On September 17, 2005 Go, Diego, Go! was added, and the block began featuring hosted segments. In late 2005, Viacom’s split from CBS led to changes in how Nickelodeon programs were handled. CBS announced in January 2006 a three-year programming deal with DIC Entertainment to create a new three-hour block for Fall 2006, which replaced Nick on CBS. The new block, KOL Secret Slumber Party, began on September 16, 2006. Noggin adjusted its weekend lineup in October 2006 in response.
All shows were required to meet the educational programming (E/I) rules. Because of these requirements, some popular Nickelodeon programs, such as SpongeBob SquarePants, were not part of the CBS block. Scheduling varied by station, with some affiliates moving the block to Sundays, Sunday afternoons, or delaying it for local programming or events.
