1944 College Football Rankings
End of season champions: Army.
In 1944 the national rankings came from a single human poll, with the Litkenhous ratings providing a numerical view of more than 300 college and military programs. The NCAA does not award a national championship; rankings are decided by polls and rating systems. The final AP Poll was released on December 4, at the end of the regular season and before the bowls, and post-bowl AP polls did not become regular until 1968. The Coaches’ Poll did not exist yet in 1944 (it began in 1950).
Top 10 (Litkenhous final, December 1944):
1. Army (9–0)
2. Randolph Field (11–0)

The rest of the top 100 was filled with many military and service teams due to World War II, alongside traditional college programs.
