New Market Township is one of 17 townships in Highland County, Ohio. It is in the county’s central area and covers about 26.7 square miles. As of the 2020 census, about 1,874 people live there. There are no municipalities within the township, and it is the only New Market Township in Ohio. The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees elected to four-year terms. Elections are held in November of odd-numbered years, with two trustees elected in the year after a presidential election and one in the year before it. There is also a township fiscal officer elected to a four-year term beginning April 1 after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies on the board or in the fiscal officership are filled by the remaining trustees.
