North Korea's navy operates from bases along both coasts, with its headquarters in Pyongyang. The Western fleet has about 300 ships, and the Eastern fleet has about 470 ships. Some ships are built at the Wonsan and Nampho shipyards. Southern bases on both coasts are used to organize infiltrations into South Korea and Japan.
