Nattjazz
Bergen International Jazz Festival, better known as Nattjazz, is one of Norway’s biggest jazz events. It takes place every year in late May in Bergen, mainly at Verftet. The festival began in 1972 and has been held annually since 1973. It started at Håndverkeren, moved to Studentsenteret in 1978, and then to USF Verftet in 1994. In 2012, renovations meant the events were held in Vågsbunnen. Most concerts are indoors, with a few outdoors, and the festival often runs four stages. Audiences buy a ticket to the whole house rather than to individual concerts, with room capacities ranging roughly from 70 to 700. Since 2013, Røkeriet at USF Verftet has been the main venue. Nattjazz also collaborates with Festspillene i Bergen, including performances in Grieghallen. The Nattjazz Prize (Hansaprisen) was started in 2005 with 50,000 NOK, awarded to artists with international potential. For more information, visit nattjazz.no.
