National Prize for Journalism (Chile)
The National Prize for Journalism is part of Chile’s National Prize system. It began in 1954 after being created by Law 11479 (1953) and is supported by the Ministry of Education and the National Council of Culture and the Arts.
It was awarded annually from 1954 to 1972. Law 17595 then changed it to a biennial prize (every two years). From 1954–1963, the prize had three categories—writing, feature reporting, and photography. In 1964 a drawing category was added. Between 1975 and 1993, the records note the winner’s category.
Other notable journalism prizes in Chile awarded to individuals include the Lenka Franulic Award (1963), the Embotelladora Andina Award (1979), and the Carmen Puelma Award (1994).
