Napa High School
Napa High School is a public high school in Napa, California. It was founded in 1897 and serves students in grades 9–12. The school is part of the Napa Valley Unified School District and is located at 2475 Jefferson Street. The principal is Ean Ainsworth and the district superintendent is Rosanna Mucetti. About 1,757 students attend Napa High (2023–24), with roughly 76 full-time teachers, giving a student–teacher ratio of about 23 to 1. The school colors are blue and gold, and the mascot is the Grizzly Bear; teams are called the Grizzlies.
Napa High is one of three comprehensive high schools in the district. The others are Vintage High School and American Canyon High School. The district also includes New Technology High School (a technology-focused school) and Justin-Siena High School (Catholic). Four middle schools feed into Napa High, which receives students from 19 elementary schools.
Athletics and leagues: Napa High used to compete in the Monticello Empire League but switched in 2018–19 to the Vine Valley Athletic League (VVAL). The VVAL includes Napa, American Canyon, Casa Grande, Justin-Siena, Petaluma, Sonoma Valley, and Vintage. Napa’s long-running rivalry with Vintage is known as the Big Game.
Mascot change: In 2017 the district discussed whether to keep the Indian mascot. After protests and debate, the school board voted on March 22, 2018, to retire the Indian mascot. In the first days of the 2018–19 school year, Napa High students voted to adopt the Grizzly as the new mascot.
