Nandimithra Ekanayake
Nandimithra Ekanayake (born 26 December 1943) is a Sri Lankan politician from Handala, British Ceylon. Before entering politics in 1989, he worked for the Rural Development Department, starting as a rural development officer at age 21, then becoming a district officer and later the chief officer of the Rural Development Training Center in Nalanda, Matale. He was also a writer and journalist, and authored books on Buddhism.
In 1984 he joined the Sri Lanka Mahajana Party. He entered politics in 1989, elected to Parliament for Matale as a Sri Lanka Freedom Party candidate. His early government role was as Minister of Forestry and Environment. He later led the Central Province as Chief Minister (1999–2000). He served as Minister of Provincial Councils & Local Government (2000–2001) and as Deputy Minister of Higher Education (2010–9 January 2015).
Ekanayake was MP for Matale in 1989–1999, 2000–2001, and 2009–2015. He pledged support to Maithripala Sirisena in the 2015 presidential election. He is married to Manel Sujatha Senevirathna and resides at 3/21 Malwatta Road, Matale. His party affiliations include the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the United People's Freedom Alliance.
