NGC 3905
NGC 3905 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Crater. It has a very bright, active nucleus classified as a Seyfert II galaxy, meaning its center shows quasar-like emission lines but the host galaxy is still visible.
The galaxy lies roughly 240 to 295 million light-years away, depending on the measurement method, and is moving away from us at about 6,000 km/s. It spans about 155,000 light-years across and appears as roughly 1.9 by 1.4 arcminutes on the sky, with an apparent magnitude around 12.9.
NGC 3905 is a member of the LDC 824 group, which contains about 18 galaxies. It was discovered in 1880 by English astronomer Andrew Ainslie Common. Three supernovae have been observed in this galaxy over the years. Other names you might see for it include IRAS 11465-0927, MCG -01-30-035, and PGC 36909.
