N. S. Narendra
N. S. Narendra was born in Coorg, Karnataka. He studied electronics at the National Institute of Engineering, part of the University of Mysore, and graduated in 1990. His father was an engineer at KEB, and Narendra was offered a chance to join the army but chose not to.
In 1992, he founded FirePro Systems to provide professional fire protection and security solutions. He started with just Rs 10,000 from his savings, aiming to offer integrated fire protection, security, and building management for the fast-growing construction industry.
Under Narendra’s leadership, FirePro grew into a leading company in fire safety and security. By 2011, it had about 1,300 employees and revenue around Rs 700 crore, with about 25% of revenue coming from overseas. The 2008 real estate slowdown hit the company, and around 2011 it faced a financial crisis that left some employees unpaid.
On May 11, 2012, Panasonic announced plans to acquire a 76.2% stake in FirePro Systems, and FirePro became part of Panasonic Corporation, Japan.
