Mohammad Khatami, Iran’s president from 1997 to 2005, announced his candidacy for the 2009 presidential election on February 8, 2009. He belonged to the Association of Combatant Clerics. On March 16, 2009, he endorsed Mir-Hossein Mousavi, and he later pulled out of the race.
