Jimmy Bosch
Jimmy Bosch, also known as El Trombon Criollo, is a jazz and salsa trombonist, composer, and bandleader from Jersey City, New Jersey. He is of Puerto Rican descent and grew up in Hoboken, where he graduated from Hoboken High School in 1975. He started playing trombone at age 11 and by 13 was performing with local Latin bands such as La Caliente, Arco Iris, and La Sonica.
While studying classical music at Rutgers University, he left in his second year at age 18 after meeting Manny Oquendo and joined his band, a collaboration that lasted on and off for over 20 years. He also worked with Ray Barretto from the early 1980s to the early 1990s. In 1996 he formed his own group, La Orquesta Jimmy Bosch, and has released several solo albums. He began recording and touring with Israel Cachao in 1987, a partnership that lasted more than 20 years. Bosch has contributed to more than 100 recordings and has toured with the Fania All-Stars, Eddie Palmieri, Rubén Blades, Tipica Novel, Combinación Perfecta, Pete El Conde Rodríguez, and many others around the world.
Today he continues to tour as a solo artist and bandleader. His groups include La Orquesta Jimmy Bosch and Jimmy Bosch y su Sexteto de Otro Mundo, both of which perform worldwide. He is an artist and clinician for Michael Rath Trombones, and his main instrument is the Rath R2 trombone.
