Molagoottal

Molagoottal is a South Indian stew from Kerala, traditionally made with coconut and lentils. It is eaten with rice as a substitute for sambar and is less spicy and tamarind-free. The dish is tied to the Nairs and Iyers of Kerala. Common vegetables include white pumpkin (winter melon), drumstick, squash, cucumbers, sprouted pulses, yams, root vegetables, spinach and other greens; modern versions also add carrots, cabbage and potatoes. Molagoottal is similar to the Tamil koottu, but koottu is thicker and uses Bengal gram.
