Moglicë Hydro Power Plant
Moglicë Hydroelectric Power Plant is a large dam and power station on the Devoll River in Albania, near the village of Moglicë. It is part of the Devoll Hydropower Project and is operated by Devoll Hydropower, a company owned by the Norwegian energy firm Statkraft.
Key details
- Dam and reservoir: An asphalt-core rock-fill dam, about 320 meters long and 150 meters high, with a reservoir around 7.2 square kilometers in area and about 360 million cubic meters of water.
- Power plant: Two Francis turbines (about 90 MW each) for a total installed capacity of roughly 197 MW, with an estimated annual generation of about 475 GWh.
- Construction and operation: Construction began in 2013. Main dam structures were completed in 2019, and commercial operation started in 2020.
- Future plans: Statkraft has proposed a pumped-storage project using Moglicë as the lower reservoir and creating a new upper reservoir. The planned capacity is about 1.2 GW with around 28 GWh of storage, and construction could start around 2025 and finish by 2030.
