Mistaken Identity (Delta Goodrem album)
Mistaken Identity is Delta Goodrem’s second studio album, released in Australia on 8 November 2004 by Epic and Daylight Records. Goodrem co-wrote most of the songs and the album was produced by Guy Chambers, with help from Richard Flack and Steve Power. The record has a grown‑up, piano-driven sound that blends adult contemporary, pop rock and pop jazz.
The album opened at number one on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart and earned triple platinum status, though its overall sales were not as high as her debut Innocent Eyes. It produced several hit singles: Out of the Blue (released October 2004) became a major radio hit and reached the top of the Australian charts; Mistaken Identity (Australian radio release December 2004) had an accompanying video; Almost Here (January 2005) was a major international hit—a duet with Brian McFadden that topped Australia, marked Goodrem’s first number one in Ireland, and reached the top ten in the UK. A Little Too Late (May 2005) was released in Australia only and reached number thirteen, while Be Strong (October 2005) was a digital release in Australia.
Goodrem toured the album in 2005 with The Visualise Tour. In 2025, to mark the album’s 20th anniversary, she staged Mistaken Identity – A Night of Celebration, performing the album in full in Sydney and London.
Lyrically, the album reflects Goodrem’s personal journey, including her Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis. Songs like Extraordinary Day address the diagnosis; The Last Night On Earth explores death and love; The Analyst covers self‑analysis; Be Strong offers encouragement; and Mistaken Identity speaks to her feelings at the time. The title track and other songs convey a more intimate, reflective mood.
