Mise Quadam
Mise Quadam (Mission Quadam) is a single-player adventure game released in 1995 for MS-DOS. It was developed by Agawa, a company formed by Petr Mandík and Petr Bartáček, and published by JRC Interactive. The game draws inspiration from the Perry Rhodan science fiction series.
Plot
In the year 2360, androids have killed all humans on Earth and plan to destroy plant life with a weapon called Cybertrone. A small group of human scientists hides on Matna Plus, a planetoid between Mars and Jupiter, hoping to defeat the androids with the sodomorator, a technology created by an extinct civilization on the Moon Quadam. Earlier expeditions by Willfram Kyrr and Eric Levassor reached Quadam but disappeared after weeks. The player assumes the role of David Criggs, who travels to Quadam to discover what happened to the first crew, locate the control center, and launch the sodomorator.
Gameplay
Mise Quadam is a point-and-click adventure focused on exploration, conversations, and puzzles, including many pixel-hunting challenges. The inventory sits at the bottom of the screen, and the entire game is controlled with the mouse using single-click commands.
Development
The game was created by Agawa, a company founded by Mandík and Bartáček to produce sci-fi adventures. Bartáček was impressed by Mandík’s earlier game Mavlin: Vesmírný únik and saw potential for better games. The art was drawn on paper by an external artist, then scanned into the computer and animated. Agawa released two adventure titles: Mise Quadami (1995) and Swigridova kletba (1996). They planned two more games, Orientální dobrodružství and MMA for 1998, but those releases were canceled and the company dissolved a year later as the developers moved on to other careers.
Reception
The game received mixed reviews, with scores ranging from about 30% to 65%. Critics generally praised the concept, story, and manual, noting that it represented an important step for Czech adventure games. Some criticized the animation and graphics, and a few found the story confusing or the gameplay overly difficult. Despite the criticisms, several reviewers felt the game’s ideas and execution made it a notable entry in the genre.
