2016 Asia Rugby Championship
The 2016 Asia Rugby Championship was the second year of the top-level three-nation series in Asia, part of the Asia Rugby continental championship. It ran from 30 April to 4 June and featured Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea. Other Asian nations played in the lower divisions. The competition used a double round-robin format: each pair of teams played twice, home and away. The team with the best standings won the title, while the last-placed team would face a promotion-relegation playoff against the Division 1 winner, though many teams opt not to take part.
Final standings and stats:
- Champions: Japan (24th title)
- Matches played: 6
- Tries scored: 54
- Top scorer: Benjamin Rimene (50 points)
- Most tries: Kentaro Kodama (7)
- Division 1 winner: Malaysia, who did not participate in the playoff, so the lineup for the next year remained the same.
