The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport (Italy) leads Italy’s infrastructure and transport systems, including roads, railways, ports and airports. The current minister is Matteo Salvini of the League, in office since 22 October 2022. The minister is a member of the Council of Ministers and is appointed by the President of Italy, with no fixed term. The ministry was formed on June 11, 2001, and the first holder was Pietro Lunardi. In 2021 the ministry was renamed the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility, but it returned to its original name in November 2022. The ministry is based in Rome, and its website is mit.gov.it/en.
