Milwaukee Sea Gulls
The Milwaukee Sea Gulls were a small professional hockey team from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They played one season (1950–51) in the United States Hockey League, which folded after that year. The Sea Gulls were the Chicago Black Hawks’ minor-league affiliate, formed after the Kansas City Mohawks folded in 1950. They played at the Milwaukee Arena, close to Chicago.
The team had a tough season, finishing last in their conference and missing the playoffs. After the USHL ended, Chicago tried to keep a Milwaukee team by joining the American Hockey League, but the AHL declined because of the arena. The Milwaukee Arena was booked for the American Bowling Congress and could not host hockey for the final month.
Without a league, the Sea Gulls were disbanded. Chicago later signed an affiliation with the Calgary Stampeders for the next season.
