Carbon Motors Corporation was a private American car company founded in 2003 by Stacy Dean Stephens and William Santana Li. It designed the E7, a police car built specifically for law enforcement use. The company moved from California to Georgia and then to Connersville, Indiana in 2009, planning to use a former plant there for production. In 2010, Carbon Motors signed a deal with BMW to supply diesel engines for the E7. In March 2012, the U.S. Department of Energy denied a $310 million loan the company hoped to receive. The company began winding down in 2013, with the Connersville plant lease ending on March 31 and operations effectively ending by April. In May 2013, three former executives sued the company over unpaid wages. The E7 was designed to be police-only, long-lasting, and to include built-in police equipment; it was shown in the 2010 Need for Speed game but was not produced.
