Michel Breuer
Michel Breuer (born 25 May 1980 in Gouda) is a retired Dutch footballer who played as a centre back. He is 1.83 m tall.
Breuer began playing at Haastrecht, then GCFC Olympia, before joining Excelsior’s youth team. He made his professional debut for Excelsior on 3 May 1999 against FC Dordrecht and went on to play 108 league games for the club, scoring 10 goals.
In 2004 he moved to SC Heerenveen, where he became captain at the start of the 2008–09 season and played 236 league games, scoring 10 goals, over eight years. In July 2012 Breuer joined NEC Nijmegen, but he played fewer than 40 games there. In 2014 he went on loan to Sparta Rotterdam, and later signed permanently with Sparta, staying there until 2018. He appeared 123 league times for Sparta, scoring 8 goals.
Overall Breuer’s league career totals are 519 appearances and 29 goals. He became a fan favourite at Sparta for his straightforward style and served as captain after their promotion, helping the club to a cup win and over 550 games in all competitions. After Sparta were relegated in 2018, he retired from professional football.
He is the son of Martin Breuer, who played for FC Den Bosch in the 1980s. Outside football, Breuer once worked as a security guard at a secondary school in Heerenveen.
