Michael Brown (cricketer)
Michael James Brown (born 9 February 1980 in Burnley, Lancashire) is an English former first-class cricketer. A right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm off break, he played for Middlesex (1999–2004), Hampshire (2004–2008) and Surrey (2008–2011).
Brown attended Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Blackburn and started playing cricket for Burnley Cricket Club from age 14. His younger brother David is also a cricketer.
In first-class cricket, Brown appeared in 96 matches, scoring 5,273 runs at an average of 34.01 with 9 centuries and 28 fifties, and a top score of 133. He also played 30 List A matches (922 runs at 34.14, top 96*) and 12 T20 matches (284 runs, top 77).
In January 2010 he announced a short spell in Trinidad with Clico Preysal Sports Club to help with pre-season training. He missed the entire 2010 season due to an elbow injury, and ongoing shoulder problems led to his retirement in July 2011. In April 2011 he became chairman of Burnley Cricket Club.
