Miah Burke
Jeremiah “Miah” Burke, born in 1897 in Cork, was an Irish hurler who played as a goalkeeper for his local club Collins and for the Cork county team from 1927 to 1929. He made 13 championship appearances for Cork.
Burke helped Cork win three Munster titles and two All-Ireland medals during his time on the team.
- 1927: Cork won the Munster Championship against Clare, earning Burke his first provincial medal. Cork then lost the All-Ireland final to Dublin (Dublin 4-8, Cork 1-3).
- 1928: After a draw with Clare in the Munster final, Cork won the replay to take the Munster title. Cork beat Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final and defeated Galway in the final, 6-12 to 1-0, for Burke’s second All-Ireland medal.
- 1929: Cork again won the Munster title (defeating Waterford). In the All-Ireland final, Cork beat Galway in the replay, 4-9 to 1-3, giving Burke his third provincial title and second All-Ireland medal.
That year marked the end of Burke’s inter-county career with Cork.
