Metamorfosis World Tour
Metamorfosis World Tour
The Metamorfosis World Tour was a worldwide concert tour by Guatemalan singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona to promote his thirteenth studio album, Independiente. It ran from January 27, 2012, to March 23, 2013, across five legs and 102 shows, and earned about $11.7 million from US dates. It was Arjona’s first tour after leaving Warner Music to become independent.
The tour was announced in December 2011 with dates in the Americas. The stage was built as a revolving platform with four rotating scenery changes: a two-floor apartment, a bar, a circus, and a theatre. Most shows had 19–23 songs, with many from Independiente, and Guatemalan singer Gaby Moreno joined for “Fuiste Tú” at every concert.
Production and performance:
- The show featured seven musicians and a showgirl.
- The stage weighed 45 tons and moved on 17 trucks, using about 150 lights (70 mobile) and 10 tons of scenery.
- A large LCD screen displayed images, including a pre-show Metamorfosis sequence.
- Each set matched the on-stage scenery, and some songs varied by city.
Notable moments:
- The tour set attendance records in Buenos Aires (over 160,000 at José Amalfitani Stadium) and Guatemala City (Arjona became the first artist with two consecutive sold-out shows at the Mateo Flores Stadium).
- More than two million people attended the tour in 20 countries.
Songs and guests:
- Most shows featured songs from Independiente along with familiar hits like “Lo Que Está Bien Está Mal,” “Animal Nocturno,” “Hay Amores,” and “Desnuda.”
- The set included “Historia de Taxi,” “Como Duele,” “Reconciliación,” and “Fuiste Tú” (with Gaby Moreno). The concert typically closed with “Minutos” and “Mujeres.”
Reception and milestones:
- The tour was widely praised by critics and fans for its production and Arjona’s lyricism and performance.
- In Guatemala, two sold-out Mateo Flores stadium shows occurred March 31–April 1, 2012.
- By mid-April 2012, the tour had reached over 400,000 fans, including about 160,000 in Buenos Aires. The Mendoza show on April 25, 2012, drew 24,000 attendees, setting a regional attendance record, even after a nearby fire hours before the concert.
