Max Burgess is an Australian soccer player who plays as an attacking midfielder for the Newcastle Jets in the A-League, wearing number 14. Born in Sydney on 16 January 1995, he started his career with Rockdale City Suns and joined the Sydney FC youth system, making his A-League debut with Sydney FC in the 2014-15 season. In March 2015 he signed with the Newcastle Jets as an injury replacement and made his Jets debut as a substitute against Adelaide United. He later returned to Sydney FC for the FFA Cup and youth duties. In 2017 he moved to União da Madeira in Portugal on a three-year deal. In October 2018 he joined Wellington Phoenix on a one-year contract. He left Wellington in May 2019 and signed with Western United on a two-year deal, scoring his first A-League hat-trick on 1 March 2020 against the Central Coast Mariners. In May 2021 Burgess agreed to join Sydney FC for a third spell, leaving Western United with a season left on his contract. He spent four seasons with Sydney FC before departing at the end of the 2024-25 season. Burgess then re-joined the Newcastle Jets for the 2025-26 season.
