Maurice Ahern
Maurice Ahern (born 1938) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He served as a Dublin City Councillor for Cabra–Glasnevin from 1999 to 2009, after topping the poll in 1999 and being re-elected in 2004. He was the Lord Mayor of Dublin from 2000 to 2001 and led the Fianna Fáil group on the council. He also served on the Irish Sports Council. He is married to Moira Murray and they have six children. His eldest son, Dylan Ahern, died in 2009. He is the older brother of Bertie Ahern and Noel Ahern, both Fianna Fáil TDs; Bertie was Taoiseach from 1997 to 2008. In 2009, Maurice Ahern ran in the Dublin Central by-election but finished fifth and also lost his council seat in the local elections.
