Mauja is a town and Village Development Committee in Kaski District, Gandaki Zone, in north-central Nepal. In the past, many people lived in villages here, and a village was often called "Mauja." The village was led by a Patil, who worked to bring more land under cultivation and settled disputes. A Kulkarni helped the Patil by keeping revenue records. There were various artisans with hereditary rights to their trades, and tenants paid a portion of their harvest to the artisans, a payment known as baluta. The land was mainly cultivated by tenants. In 1991, about 2,383 people lived there.
