Matthew Armstrong (born 1 March 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer from Hobart, Tasmania. He played in the VFL/AFL for Fitzroy and North Melbourne and was a regular Tasmanian interstate representative.

Armstrong came from the Hobart club in the Tasmanian Football League and was drafted by Fitzroy with pick 24 in the 1986 national draft. He made his senior debut in 1987 and played 132 games for Fitzroy, kicking 71 goals, from 1987 to 1994.

In 1995 he moved to North Melbourne, where he played 43 games and kicked 18 goals over two seasons (1995–1996). He was North Melbourne’s second-highest disposal getter in 1995. In 1996 he played most of the season but was not selected for the grand final, which North Melbourne won against Sydney.

Armstrong was used mainly in the midfield and half-back, known for his quick, accurate disposal and his ability to break lines and create scoring opportunities. After his playing days, he became coach of the Tasmanian Devils Football Club. Overall, he finished his AFL career with 175 games and 89 goals.
