Matthew 11:10
Matthew 11:10 says that before Jesus comes, God will send a messenger to prepare the way. The line comes from Malachi 3:1: “Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me.” The Greek word for messenger, angelos, can mean either an angel or a human messenger. Some ancient writers even called John the Baptist an angel in this sense. “Prepare your way” means removing obstacles so people can meet Christ, like clearing a road for a king. The verse shows John’s close connection to Jesus and his key role in getting people ready. Early church teachers added their own notes: John didn’t wear fine clothes or flatter sinners, but spoke bluntly to rebuke sin, and his life of repentance helped others receive Christ. In short, John the Baptist is the forerunner who clears the way for Jesus.
