Gekko mizoramensis
Gekko mizoramensis is a species of parachute gecko, a small lizard in the gecko family. It is endemic to Mizoram state in northeast India. The species was discovered in Lawngtlai town, in May 2022, in the Indo-Burma region. It was formally described in 2023 by Lalremsanga, Muansanga, Vabeiryureilai and Mirza, giving it the binomial name Gekko mizoramensis.
Genetic studies show it is 7–14% different from its closest relative, Gekko popaense, which lives on the opposite side of the Arakan hills.
All observed individuals were found in the town area at heights of about 1.5 to 3.6 meters above ground. They become active at dusk and hunt insects attracted to light sources. The local area also hosts lizards Calotes irawadi, Gekko gecko and Hemidactylus frenatus.
The discovery suggests that biodiversity in northeast India is still not fully documented.
