Matt O'Connor (rugby union)
Matt O'Connor (born 29 January 1971) is an Australian rugby union coach and former international player. He played as a centre and earned one cap for Australia in 1994 against Ireland. His club playing career included ACT in the late 1990s, Paris Saint-Germain in 1997, and a three-year spell in Japan with Kubota.
As a coach, O'Connor held roles with the Brumbies as a backline coach and for Australia A. He joined Leicester Tigers as a backline coach and then attack coach, helping the club win the English Premiership in 2009 and 2010. He became Leicester's head coach in 2010 and is credited with part of their 2013 Premiership win. He moved to Leinster as head coach in 2013, winning the Pro12 in 2013-14 but was sacked in 2015. He then joined the Queensland Reds as attack coach in 2016 and served as co-interim head coach with Nick Stiles. In 2017 he returned to Leicester as head coach, but left the club in September 2018.
