María Quinteras de Meras was a Mexican revolutionary who became a colonel. She dressed as a man to fight and took part in ten battles from 1910 to 1913. People thought her fighting was so fierce that some believed she had supernatural powers. She joined Pancho Villa's army in 1910 and fought beside her husband, who was a captain under her command. She refused payment for her services to the revolution.
