Manchester School District
Manchester School District is based in Manchester, New Hampshire, and is the largest school district in the state. In the 2000s, nearby towns sent some high school students to Manchester under contracts. Hooksett had an agreement to educate its high school students there, planned to last until 2023.
Bedford used to send students to Manchester West High School, but starting in fall 2007, Bedford began sending new students to Bedford High School instead, and by fall 2009 Bedford stopped sending any students to Manchester West.
In 2011 Auburn voted to switch its high school to Pinkerton Academy in Derry, with 1,119 in favor and 190 against, although some Auburn students were already choosing Pinkerton that year. By 2013 the relationship with Hooksett deteriorated, with each side claiming the other violated the contract, and Hooksett and the district agreed to end their contract early in July 2013. In October 2013, 426 high school students who lived in Hooksett attended Manchester district schools.
In 2016 Candia voters chose to switch their high school from Manchester Central High School to Pinkerton Academy, effective 2018, meaning Candia would no longer send high school students to the Manchester School District. The vote was 1,090 in favor and 113 against.
John Goldhardt became superintendent in 2019 and resigned in February 2022, earlier than his initial plan to step down around 2024. As of 2012, the district had many English language learners because the U.S. State Department placed refugees in Manchester.
