Kenneth Macdonald (civil servant)
Sir Kenneth Carmichael Macdonald, KCB (25 July 1930 – 24 February 2025) was a British civil servant and businessman. He studied at Hutchesons' Grammar School and the University of Glasgow. After two years in the Royal Air Force, he began his civil service career in 1954 with the Air Ministry, then worked at HM Treasury, and moved to the Ministry of Defence in 1965. He became deputy secretary in 1980 and served as the MoD’s Second Permanent Secretary from 1988 to 1990. After leaving government, he chaired Raytheon Europe (1991–1994) and Raytheon Systems (1991–2000). He died on 24 February 2025, aged 94.
