Malta is a small, unincorporated community in Lower Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. It sits about 541 feet above sea level and lies at the crossroads of two roads. The place was once called Vera Cruz and is described as a "post village" in local history. In the late 1800s, Malta had several mechanic shops, a store, a Reformed church, a Lutheran church, and about a dozen houses. Its coordinates are approximately 40.6178°N, 76.9092°W.
