Sofía Otero
Sofía Otero Labrador (born 31 March 2013) is a Spanish child actress from Barakaldo in the Basque Country. She lives in Basauri, Spain.
Her film debut was the 2023 movie 20,000 Species of Bees, where she plays a transgender girl. Director Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren chose her after auditioning 500 girls. To help with an accurate portrayal, Naizen, a regional association for families of transgender minors, provided guidance.
Her performance earned wide recognition. She won the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival in 2023, becoming the youngest winner of the prize. The film also received ensemble awards at other festivals, including the Hong Kong International Film Festival (best female cast ensemble) and the Guadalajara International Film Festival (Maguey Award for Best Ensemble).
In 2023 she joined the cast of Who Is Who? by Martín Cuervo, a remake of Le Sens de la famille. In 2024 she appeared in Los aitas, a comedy by Borja Cobeaga about a group of fathers accompanying their daughters to a rhythmic gymnastics championship in Berlin.
In 2025 she starred in Cuatro paredes, a drama that premiered at BCN Film Fest and was filmed in 12 long takes. That year she also appeared in the music video for Aitana’s song “Cuando hables con él.”
The Basauri City Council honored her in April 2023 for winning the Silver Bear.
