Madinat Al Kaaban (Arabic: مدينة الكعبان) is a small village in Qatar, in the Ash Shamal municipality near the border with Al Khor. The name means “city of Kaaban,” reflecting the Al-Kaabi tribe that founded and has lived there.

Nearby Waab Al Mashrab to the northeast is now abandoned. Built in the 1950s, it was deserted in 1976 during government resettlement efforts; about 50 houses, a mosque, a school and several farms remain in ruins.

Doha lies about 65 kilometers to the south, while Madinat ash Shamal is about 35 kilometers to the northwest.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Qatar’s oil wealth led to housing projects. By 1976, about 50 houses had been built in Madinat Al Kaaban.

The village has a youth center that opened in November 2008 and serves nearby communities. It hosts charity and children’s festivals, girls’ art workshops, and religious lectures.

Madinat Al Kaaban Park was opened in 2001 and covers around 12,000 square meters, featuring palm trees, Tecomas and Cassias.

The area of Madinat Al Kaaban is about 2.2 square miles (5.6 square kilometers), and its population was 591 in 2021.
