Madaniyah, Iraq
Madaniyah is a small village in Basrah Governorate, southern Iraq, on the west bank of the Shatt Al-Arab River. It lies next to the town of Ad Dayr, near one of the few bridges over the river. The area is close to the Mesopotamian Marshes and has traditionally been home to Marsh Arabs. The village has two mosques and a girls’ school. It suffered heavy fighting during the Iran–Iraq War and again after the 1991 Iraqi uprising. Coordinates are about 30.80°N, 47.60°E.
