Lucinda Chua is a London-born cellist and composer with English, Malaysian, and Chinese heritage. She grew up in Hammersmith and moved to Milton Keynes when she was 10. She learned piano by ear from age three and started the cello at ten after hearing a string quartet perform Pachelbel's Canon in D Major in Covent Garden. She later studied photography at Nottingham Trent University, where she also explored lo-fi music production and made a seven-song CD.

Chua has performed with various artists and bands, often as a support act for Bat for Lashes and Martha Wainwright. She was part of the chamber pop duo Felix, which released two albums before splitting up, and she toured with Stars of the Lid. She later played cello for FKA Twigs during the Magdalene era. After the pandemic canceled tours, she began work on her debut album Yian, named after her Mandarin middle name meaning “swallow.” Her influences include PJ Harvey, Cat Power, Talk Talk, Otis Redding, and Nina Simone.
