Luarica diamond mine
Luarica diamond mine is a diamond mine in Angola. It is owned by a partnership led by Endiama with 38% and Trans Hex with 32% ownership.
In 2004, the mine produced about 95,000 carats from over 632,000 cubic meters of ore. Of that, 84,000 carats were sold at an average price above US$300 per carat, a high for Angolan diamond production.
The mine has probable reserves of about 1.3 million cubic meters of ore, with an ore grade of 21.6 carats per 100 cubic meters. There is about 9.5 million cubic meters of waste rock.
Mining operations were suspended in May 2009 due to a decline in diamond demand from the Great Recession. In August 2011, Trans Hex announced it would withdraw from its two Angola joint ventures with Endiama (Luarica and Fucauma) after failing to reach an agreement with the Government of Angola; Endiama said it planned to restart operations on its own.
