Location (Khalid song)
Location is the debut single by American singer Khalid. It was first uploaded to SoundCloud on April 30, 2016, and released commercially in May 2016 as the lead single from his debut album American Teen (2017). The song was written by Khalid and several collaborators, and produced by Syk Sense, Tunji Ige, Chris McClenney, Smash David, Alfredo Gonzalez, Austin Mensales, and Barjam Kurti. It was recorded at Beacon Hill Recording Studios in El Paso, Texas.
Location is an alternative R&B track about young love, running 3 minutes and 37 seconds. It has been certified Diamond by the RIAA and was nominated for Best R&B Song at the 60th Grammy Awards. Khalid has said the beat inspired him and helped shape the song’s mood.
The music video premiered September 26, 2016 on Khalid’s Vevo channel, directed by Alex Di Marco, and has hundreds of millions of views (over 552 million as of May 2023). The video features desert scenery, a car, and a search for a “Location,” which turns out to be a swimming pool.
Three remixes were released: an official remix with Lil Wayne and Kehlani (March 17, 2017); a remix with Little Simz (January 26, 2017); and a remix with Jorja Smith and Wretch 32 (February 9, 2018).
