Ethane dimethanesulfonate
Ethane dimethanesulfonate (EDS) is an organic chemical also known as ethylene glycol dimethanesulfonate. Its formula is C4H10O6S2, and it is the diester of ethylene glycol and two methanesulfonic acid groups. It has a molar mass of 218.24 g/mol, a density of 1.65 g/cm3, and melts at about 35–36 °C. In laboratory studies, EDS can selectively destroy adult Leydig cells in the testes of adult male rats, after which the Leydig cells regenerate from stem cells.
