Live at Carlos 1
Live at Carlos 1 is a live jazz album by the Billy Bang Sextet. It was recorded on November 23, 1986, and released in 1986 on the Italian Soul Note label. The running time is 46:20, and it was produced by Giovanni Bonandrini. In Billy Bang’s discography, it comes after The Fire from Within (1984) and before Valve No. 10 (1988).
Critics praised the album. AllMusic gave it 4½ stars and described it as a melodic avant-garde set that rewards repeated listening and has a lot of variety. The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings notes that the album underlines the group’s distinctiveness, but it also calls the pace a little plodding.
