List of road interchanges in the United States
The United States has many notable road interchanges. They are mostly part of the Interstate Highway System and are where freeways cross at a junction.
Some well-known interchanges include:
- Kennedy Interchange in Louisville (I-64, I-65, I-71)
- Marquette Interchange and Zoo Interchange in Milwaukee (I-94, I-43, I-794)
- Pregerson Interchange in Los Angeles (I-110, I-105)
- Circle Interchange in Chicago (I-90, I-94, I-290)
The first stack interchange ever built was the Four Level Interchange in Los Angeles, completed in 1949 at the junction of US 101 and SR 110. It was later renamed the Bill Keene Memorial Interchange. California has since built at least eight more four-level stack interchanges, along with many three-level stack or cloverleaf-style hybrids.
Despite these designs helping traffic flow, Los Angeles still has many of the most congested highway segments in the country, with 11 of the top 30 stretches.
